Preparing Your Quilt for Longarm Quilting
To ensure the best results for your quilt, please follow these guidelines before sending it to me for longarm quilting:
Quilt Top
Directional Quilts: Mark the top edge with a safety pin if your quilt is directional.
Preparation: Trim any loose threads, and check for gaps or loose seams. Remove all embellishments like pins, buttons, or safety pin to avoid any issues during quilting.

Backing
Standard Backing: Ensure the backing is 5 inches larger than the quilt top on all sides (e.g., a 60" x 60" top needs a 70" x 70" backing).
Wide-Back Fabric (108"): Keep the fabric at 108 inches wide and ensure the other side is 10 inches larger than the quilt top. I can use the selvage as a guide to load the backing straight, unless it’s directional—in that case, cut it to be 5 inches larger than the quilt top on all sides.
Pieced Backing: If you’re creating a pieced backing from standard quilt fabric (typically 44" wide), it’s best to sew the seams horizontally. The fewer seams, the better. All seams should be pressed open.

Batting
Purchase Batting: You can purchase batting directly through me. I offer The Warm Company Warm & Natural Cotton Batting, which I can cut to fit your quilt perfectly.
Provide Your Own Batting: If you’re providing your own batting, ensure it is the same size as the backing, which should be 5 inches larger than the quilt top on all sides. This extra size is crucial for proper attachment to the quilting frame.

Important
Oversized Backing and Batting: The backing and batting must be 5 inches larger on all sides to allow for proper attachment to the quilting frame. If either isn’t large enough—or if it’s significantly larger than needed—I may ask you to resize it.
Thread Color
Choosing a Thread Color: Selecting the right thread color is all about your personal style. Some prefer neutral threads that blend into the quilt top, while others like a thread color that stands out. Consider the overall look you want, and keep in mind the backing fabric as well—for example, white thread on a black backing will really stand out. If you're unsure, I'm happy to provide suggestions.
I use premium thread, and I use the same thread in the bobbin as the top of the quilt.

Design and Density
Selecting a Design: I have a gallery of designs available on my website. choose the quilting design for your project. If you're feeling unsure which design would complement your quilt top best, feel free to ask for guidance.
Quilting Density: Think about how dense you want the quilting to be—some prefer a looser, less dense pattern, while others like it more densely quilted.
